Guess what was the first thing producer T Siva of Amma Creations and debutant director Sripathi Rangasami, a former associate of Venkat Prabhu, did after they decided to name their film ‘Kanimozhi’?

They called on Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi’s daughter Kanimozhi and narrated the storyline. Only after the Rajya Sabha member said she did not have any objection with the film’s title, an official announcement was made in the media.

“She was very impressed by the script and expressed happiness that such films are a rarity in Tamil cinema. The movie has no politics in it, but a beautiful story with Jai and Bollywood actress Shazahn Padamsee in lead roles,” says Sripathi.

On roping in Jai, he says, “I know him for a longtime and we are very good friends. If at all Jai had made any mistakes in committing films, Kanimozhi will set things right. He is a talented actor and his skills will be utilised in a proper way.”
